Context

Soya Hub for Inclusive Nutrition Enterprises (SHINE) is a social business company working in the soya bean value chain with a mission to improve the livelihoods of the soya bean value chain actors with a major focus on value addition to make a highly nutritious product called TOFU out of soya. SHINE is operating in Hoima and Buliisa district, with headquarters in Hoima town and a secondary office in Buliisa town.

Tofu is a new product in the Bunyoro region with a high potential for socio-economic development. Tofu looks like meat though made of soybean only. It is a nutritious food, with a high content of protein and much more affordable than animal protein food like meat, chicken or fish. Tofu can easily be used in daily and local recipes like muchomo, kikalaya, pasted ground nut sauce and any kind of soup. Tofu can be processed and sold within our communities and thus creates local jobs and incomes.

SHINE develops the tofu value chain with the following operations:

  1. production at a facility operated by the company in Hoima,
  2. technology transfer to women-owned small businesses to produce tofu in the communities,
  3. marketing of the product with a network of retailers, restaurants and other distributors and with promotional actions within the communities.

SHINE operates under the MonSoja® brand, that stands for quality, cooperation, innovation, and nutrition.

SHINE is looking for a Marketing Officer to lead its marketing activities in Buliisa District.

Job description

The Marketing Officer will work under the supervision of the Operations Manager based in Hoima and will be responsible for leading all marketing and promotional activities related to tofu and the MonSoja® brand.

She/he will be based in Buliisa District, working as part of a 3-person team alongside a Marketing Assistant (supervised by the Marketing Officer) and a Production Officer (with a separated scope of work, in charge of tofu production). The Marketing Officer will ensure the development of strong sales channels and sufficient demand to absorb the tofu production from local women producers, effective product promotion, consumer awareness, and strong market presence for MonSoja® tofu across the area.

She/He will play a key role in brand development, local marketing campaigns, sales support, and customer engagement.

Main responsibilities include:

Marketing Strategy & Implementation

  • Develop and adapt local marketing strategies to promote tofu and build MonSoja® brand visibility.
  • Plan, organize, and oversee community events, tofu tasting tastings, and promotional activities.
  • Identify and coordinate with authorities, local influencers, and communication platforms.
  • Monitor consumer perceptions and adjust communication approaches as needed.

Brand Development & Sales Support

  • Identify and recruit new tofu retailers to join the MonSoja® distribution network.
  • Explore and initiate new distribution channels.
  • Maintain and support the existing portfolio of MonSoja® retailers through regular field visits, coaching, and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure proper and consistent use of MonSoja® branding in all marketing materials and sales outlets
  • Supervise and collaborate with the Marketing Assistant in executing field marketing activities.

  • Contribute to the creation of a loyal customer network and visibility for MonSoja® tofu in the region.

Market Research & Communication

  • Conduct surveys, interviews, and observations to gather insights on consumer behavior.
  • Analyze results to inform strategy and improve messaging.
  • Support monitoring and evaluation through data collection and reporting.

Team Collaboration & Field Coordination

  • Work closely with the Production Officer and the Marketing Assistant to align marketing and production activities.
  • Report regularly to the Operations Manager in Hoima and participate in coordination meetings.
  • Take part in team learning processes and contribute to the improvement of field tools and practices.

Conditions of the position

Location: Buliisa District (with frequent fieldwork in surrounding communities and regular coordination with the Hoima team)

Contract type: working contract up to 31 December 2025 with a potential for renewal of 12 months based on results

Start date: asap in August 2025

Remuneration: fixed salary to be defined according to the applicant’s profile ; medical insurance

Supervision: Reports to the Operations Manager (Hoima) and the Project Manager (Hoima)

Team management: Direct supervisor of the Marketing Assistant

Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, communications, or a related field
  • Or at least 3 years of professional experience in a similar position
  • Experience working in field-based or community-level projects
  • Ability to ride a motorbike, with a valid riding permit
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written); knowledge of local languages is an asset (Alur, Lugungu, Runyoro)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage a small team
  • Creativity, initiative, and problem-solving mindset
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Willingness to ride frequently within the district, work and live in a rural environment
  • Proficiency in Excel and basic data reporting tools
