Job Title: Chief Finance Officer (CFO)
Department: Finance
Reports to: Group Chief Executive Officer (Group CEO)
Location: Kampala, Uganda

Job Purpose

The Chief Finance Officer (CFO) is responsible for overseeing the financial strategy, management, and operations of Next Media Services. The role ensures financial sustainability, compliance, and strategic planning to support the company’s vision and long-term objectives. The CFO will play a pivotal role in driving financial performance, operational efficiency, and business growth while upholding the organization’s values and integrity.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute the company’s financial strategy in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Collaborate with the Group CEO and leadership team to shape the company’s overall strategic direction.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to support key business decisions and growth opportunities.
  • Evaluate and manage financial risks, opportunities, and investments to maximize shareholder value.

Financial Management and Reporting

  • Oversee financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis across all departments.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and transparent financial reporting to stakeholders, including the Board of Directors.
  • Monitor financial performance, identifying areas for improvement and recommending corrective measures.
  • Oversee the preparation of statutory accounts and ensure compliance with local tax regulations and financial laws.

Operational Oversight

  • Supervise the finance team, ensuring efficient operations and capacity-building.
  • Implement and maintain financial systems, processes, and controls to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.
  • Optimize working capital management, including receivables, payables, and cash flow.
  • Lead cost management initiatives and drive efficiency across the organization.

Governance and Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to corporate governance policies and ethical financial practices.
  • Liaise with auditors, tax authorities, and regulators to ensure full compliance with all statutory obligations.
  • Establish risk management frameworks to safeguard the company’s assets and reputation.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Manage relationships with financial institutions, investors, and other external stakeholders.
  • Represent Next Media Services in financial negotiations, partnerships, and investment discussions.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the Board of Directors, presenting financial updates, analysis, and strategies.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Achievement of financial targets, including revenue growth and profitability.
  • Accuracy and timeliness of financial reports and audits.
  • Efficiency improvements in financial operations and cost management.
  • Compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Strengthened financial systems, controls, and processes.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. A master’s degree or MBA is highly desirable.
  • Professional Certification: CPA, ACCA, or CFA qualification is mandatory.
  • Experience:
    • At least 10 years of experience in financial management, with 5+ years in a senior leadership role.
    • Proven track record in strategic financial planning, risk management, and corporate governance.
    • Experience in media, entertainment, or a fast-paced industry is an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge, understanding and working of an ERP system preferably SAP, IFRS, financial regulations, and tax compliance.
