Level: Mid-Senior Level Management

Reports To: Commercial Director – UBL

Context/Scope

The Ugandan market is developing rapidly, with widespread changes taking place in the structure of the retail trade. There is an emergence of an increasingly discerning customer and consumer. This has lead to an increased growth in the standards of the retail outlets to meet these new consumer demands.

Positively influencing the sales drivers to deliver the businesses volume growth ambitions is critical in realizing the UBL vision.

Outlets are starting to have increasingly professional management structures with the emergence of groups and chains taking control of key outlets and accounts.

The competitor environment has greatly changed in the last one year and this has greatly changed the business operational landscape. This will require a shift in our TBA strategic approach to the Customer and creating amazing relationship platforms to win at Retail.

The overall Regulatory environment has equally changed hence posing a clear change in the way we approach Retail with much emphasis on off trade segment. Thinking beyond our conventional Channel.

The above calls for a structured approach in customer management of the retail trade to ensure that our strategies are aligned with customer needs and delivers on the UBL vision.

Dimensions

Financial

Responsible for the effective management and investment of

  • The customer consideration budget
  • Sales driver A&P budget
  • The coordination and execution of all marketing A&P budgets assigned towards the delivery of brand visibility, POS material BTL (Below the line) [estimated 40% of total UBL A&P]

Market Complexity

The role is responsible for activities in the Uganda market for all Beer and Spirits and Anad SKUs.

  • Key accounts both on and off trade.
  • Stewardship of the customer marketing capability and development.
  • Stewards’ execution of the total EABL BTL A&P budget in UGANDA

Cuts across the whole business dealing directly with all Functions-Sales, Marketing, Finance, Operations and Procurement.

Leadership Responsibilities

This role is part of the Marketing leadership team, interfaces cross functionally across the business at peer level and at senior management level. Is responsible for driving the trade strategy and leading and motivating a team of 5-7 members.

Purpose Of Role

  • Pivotal role in managing the processes and the coordination between the sales and marketing teams.
  • Driving the companies customer marketing agenda BTL (Below the line)
  • Pursuing improved consumer experiences in the on and the off trade.
  • Drive the planning and implementation of the company’s BTL brand plans, objectives and strategies through effective joined up business planning.
  • Steward the engagement with the customers and influence the way the business executes in trade via the commercial planning process, brand strategies and game plans as well as the sales team engagement program.

Role Responsibilities

Joined up Business Planning, Commercial planning and coordination of all trade and BTL activities across the business. Trade and Category strategy development, entrenchment in the commercial planning process. Merchandise / POS identification, placement co-ordination, design and procurement. Sales driver programs development and execution Stewardship of the measurement and evaluation of programs executed in trade.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Graduate).
  • Commercially astute and experience in Demand (Sales, Customer marketing and Marketing).

Experience

  • Previously demonstrated success in Sales, Marketing or Customer Marketing ideal.
  • 6 years commercial (sales) role and brand management experience is ideal
  • Project management.
  • Ability to deliver results through others without direct authority.
