Job Description

Job Summary

The Safety Manager is the responsible individual and focal point for the implementation and maintenance of an effective Company Safety Management System (SMS).  The manager shall be responsible for ensuring the provision of an independent assessment and overview of the safety of the company activities. Regarding safety matters, the Safety Manager has direct access to the Accountable Manager and appropriate senior management on matters regarding safety. 

 Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Participating in the development and implementation of the organization’s safety management system. 
  • Developing safety management system processes and procedures that are consistent with the organization’s safety objectives. 
  • Managing daily activities of the safety management system including supporting operational departments in implementing the safety management system. 
  • Collecting, managing, and analyzing safety data before tabulating results for management consideration and guidance. 
  • Maintaining safety database and providing organizational guidance to address operational, administrative and management concerns. 
  • Conducting incident and accident investigations in conjunction with affected departments to establish the root causes and necessary corrective actions. 
  • Developing and implementing safety promotion activities throughout the organization that include training, safety publicity and mentorship programs.
  • Providing periodic reports on the organization’s safety performance through formal safety review meetings.
  • Communicating and coordinating with operational managers within the organization, subcontracted organizations and suppliers on the requirements and implementation of the safety management program, desired organizational goals, and management of operational risks. 
  •  Training and promoting safety management within the organization, subcontracted service providers and any other relevant entities. 
  • Conducting safety surveys, audits, inspections, and establishing strategies on safety improvements throughout the organization. 
  • Participating in the Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) program and supporting the relevant departments in addressing and mitigating safety concerns from the FDM program.
  • Conducting safety risk assessments to ensure that operations are conducted within the safety risk tolerability level acceptable by the organization. 
  • Reviewing and supporting departments in the management of changes and providing adequate mitigation measures where required. 
  • Reviewing and providing reports on safety and environmental management issues as may be required. 
  • Participating in the Safety Action Group meetings as Chair of the meetings.
  • Supporting the Head of Safety as may be needed from time to time.

Knowledge, Skills and Attributes 

  • A technically qualified person in the field of flight operations, Ground operations or aircraft maintenance. 
  • At least three years of experience in the field of flight operations or aircraft maintenance.
  • Diploma or Degree holder in a relevant field (operations, administration, Certifications in safety management systems. 
  • He/she must be computer literate. 
  • The potential candidate must be acceptable to the Company. 
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with analytical thinking and good Interpersonal skills. 
  • Trained and conversant with Airline safety operations systems and procedures. 
  • Trained and conversant with Accident Investigation process and procedures. 
  • High level of Integrity and Confidentiality.
